If all necessary permits are issued properly, which is only possible with the help of a state-approved travel agency, you can easily drive Overland through China, Tibet and Thailand. This Overland motorcycle adventure takes you all the way from the Bavarian capital Munich through the wild mountains of East Europe to Istanbul, the oriental pearl at the crossroads of Europe and Asia. We climb the Anatolian highlands and reach the Georgian hinterland where we ride across deep gorges on winding roads. Up and through the wooded mountains and hilly steppes with grazing camels we continue to Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Here, we cross the largest desert of Central Asia and follow the Silk Route to long forgotten trading posts. After a few nights in Yurts, we cross Kyrgyzstan and then reach China – the Middle Kingdom – from where we ascent into thin air and the breathtaking heights of Tibet – the Roof of the World.

Starting from the west, China shares borders, among other countries, with Pakistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Russia, Laos and Nepal. China is therefore often not just an option, but a must, especially if you are traveling from Europe to Southeast Asia or if you want to travel to India via Nepal or Pakistan. All of these countries have open borders for China Overland travelers – if you consider important points when preparing your China transit. For example, your China transit must be applied for at least 60 days in advance with the responsible authorities, the previously agreed travel route should be followed and a state-approved guide must be present.
