Bhutan Intensive Motorcycle Tour
Hidden deep within the eastern Himalayas lies Bhutan, one of the most fascinating and least-visited countries in Asia. Known as the “Land of the Thunder Dragon,” this small Himalayan kingdom is renowned for its dramatic landscapes, ancient monasteries and a culture that has remained largely untouched by modern mass tourism. Despite its modest size, Bhutan offers extraordinary geographic diversity. Dense forests, steep mountain valleys and deep river gorges dominate the landscape, while winding roads climb over high Himalayan passes and descend into subtropical jungle regions. For motorcyclists, this creates one of the most spectacular riding destinations in the world.
Our Bhutan Intensive Motorcycle Tour is an 11-day Himalayan adventure designed for riders who want to experience the full diversity of Bhutan. Travelling on Royal Enfield motorcycles, we cross remote mountain passes, ride through pristine forests and explore traditional villages where centuries-old Buddhist culture continues to shape daily life. The journey begins with arrival in Delhi, followed by a short flight to Bagdogra in eastern India. From there we travel to the Bhutanese border at Phuentsholing, where our motorcycles await and the adventure truly begins.

Over the following days we ride westward across Bhutan, crossing several spectacular Himalayan passes above 3,000 meters. Highlights include the rugged Trumshing La Pass (3,789 m) and Chele La Pass (3,988 m) — the highest motorable road in Bhutan. These routes offer breathtaking views of the Himalayan mountains and provide some of the finest motorcycle roads in Asia. Along the way we explore the cultural heart of Bhutan. In Thimphu, the world’s smallest capital city, we discover monasteries, traditional architecture and lively local markets. In the remote Bumthang Valley, often called the “Switzerland of Bhutan,” ancient temples and monasteries reveal the spiritual history of the kingdom.
One of the most unforgettable experiences of the tour is the visit to Taktsang Monastery, better known as the legendary Tiger’s Nest. Perched dramatically on a cliff high above the Paro Valley, this sacred monastery is one of the most iconic landmarks in the Himalayas and a symbol of Bhutanese Buddhism. Throughout the journey we encounter a country where traditions remain deeply rooted. Bhutan famously measures progress through Gross National Happiness, reflecting a national philosophy that prioritizes culture, nature and spiritual wellbeing.
This guided Bhutan motorcycle expedition combines spectacular Himalayan riding, rich Buddhist culture and pristine natural landscapes — offering a rare opportunity to explore one of the world’s most extraordinary mountain kingdoms. Bhutan remains one of the most exclusive travel destinations on Earth. Riding through this remote Himalayan country on a motorcycle is not just a tour — it is a true adventure into a living culture that has changed little over centuries.
I had …
… a lot of fun on the tour. We got along well within the group and the guides were also very nice. The tour was very well organized.

Tibetmoto Tours …
… has put together a very nice tour with a lot of variety, huge gorges and wide mountain views. The tour was a lot of fun in the group and I’m already looking forward to the next tour with Tibetmoto!
The bikes …
… were very easy to ride on the tour. The winding roads in the gorge and on the mountains were easy for an experienced driver like me and were a lot of fun. For that alone I would book the tour again.
It’s been …
… a long time since I found such a well-organized tour as this one. The many highlights, such as the city of Lijiang or the deep Tiger Leaping Gorge, were just as worth seeing as the biggest prayer wheel in the world in Shangri-La. But my personal highlight was spending the night with a Tibetan family. Excellent!
