Even during the best riding seasons, weather at altitude can change extremely quickly. Sunshine and temperatures above 20°C may turn into cold winds and under special circumstances below-freezing temperatures within only a few hours once higher passes or exposed plateau regions are reached.

Altitude:
Large parts of the expedition take place between 4,000 and 5,000 metres above sea level, with several high passes exceeding these elevations. Proper acclimatization in Lhasa is therefore an essential part of the journey and should never be underestimated. Travellers with pre-existing medical conditions should consult their doctor beforehand to discuss whether such an expedition is suitable for them and whether altitude-related medication may be advisable.
